You will probably see the default application is set to TWINUI, click on this and select the appropriate application. Then scroll down to the bottom of the list and select choose default applications by file type. Note if you select the app from the initial list (i.e don’t select choose another app), the file will display but the error would re-occur the next time you tried to open another file of the same type.Īlternatively go to Settings, Apps, Default apps.
It is important to carry out this last step so there will be a valid entry added to the registry. Typically Photos or Windows Media Player and click/tick “Always use this app to open xxx files”. The correct fix is to simply right click on the file and select “Open with”, then “Choose another app”, choose the relevant application. The problem seems to be simply that Windows has no application assigned to read that file type, but instead of telling you that, it gives this rather unhelpful error message, which while technically correct from the viewpoint of the machine, doesn’t really help the human user. I have seen several videos on YouTube that are supposed to help with this problem, but all the ones I saw were quite misleading. This is most likely to happen the first time you open a file of that type.
